Fargo football is back as the Invaders crushed the Minnesota Mud Dawgs in a 42-0 blowout victory. Backboned by a deep roster of power backs, the Invaders saw early success by gutting the Mud Dawgs defense with short runs up the middle. Eight players shared the carries Saturday night, but much of the workload was given to backs CT Davis and Brandon Jones. Both of which finished with a combined 16 carries for 74 yards.
After laying a foundation for a reliable run-game the Invaders began to triumph with the air attack. Led by the quarterback duo, Ja’Vonte Johnson and Justan Taliaferro, Fargo saw an early-season spark by receiver Jon Baune who caught seven of the ten passes that went his direction for a total of 115 yards and a touchdown. Lined up next to Baune for much of the game was Kevin Irby Jr who pulled down three receptions; two of which reached the end zone for 24 and 48-yard gains respectively.
While the offense is to credit for five of the Invaders scores it was the defense that came up big protecting the house. The other side of the ball took away an incredible five interceptions, four of which were stolen from Mud Dawgs quarterback Jusais Kalis.
Fans will get to sleep easy for the next two weeks until they face off against the 2017 Elite Bowl X Champions in Burnsville, MN against the Minneapolis Warriors. The Invaders will be challenged offensively as they go against a Warriors team that intercepted 16 passes last season.
