FARGO, ND –
The Fargo Invaders football team announces that Zach Stich has been hired as the team’s new head coach.
“This is an amazing honor,” Stich said. “Over the past few years, I have watched the Invaders from afar and jumped at an opportunity to join the team this past season. Getting to know the players, their families and working toward a common goal is what football and the Invaders are all about.”
Stich will be taking over for Brent Lundgren, reporting to General Manager Steven Othelot.
Lundgren has been the face of the Invaders over the last four years. Brent was Offensive Coordinator in 2014 when the Invaders claimed the MPFL title and was co-Head Coach in 2016 as the team went undefeated, posting a 12-0 record and winning the NSFL championship. Lundgren would take over sole Head Coach in 2017 and guide the Invaders for the next three seasons, finishing his career with the Invaders hoisting the NEFL championship this past season. Brent’s offense average 33.71 PPG over five seasons, posting a (45-13) record.
Coach Stich was hired this past offseason to become the Invaders’ Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach. Zach brought 10 years of junior college coaching experience to the Invaders, including seven as an Offensive Coordinator. In 2014, Stich, along with current Invaders quarterback Ja’vonte Johnson, led the Minnesota State-Fergus Falls Spartans to the MCAC semifinals with a devastating passing attack. In 2016, his offense was ranked in the top 4 in the nation during his team’s eight-game season.
This past season, Stich helped develop a young offensive line to go with the team’s explosive downfield offense. The Fergus Falls native would take over play-calling duties June 22 and helped the Invaders finish the season 9-4 and win the Northern Elite Football League championship. Zach went 1-1 as interim head coach, filling in on two Regular Season games for Lundgren.
“I appreciate all the support that coaches Lundgren, Westphal, Elijah, and Rott, General Manager Steve Othelot, President Matt Petznick and the entire Invaders organization have shown. I also want to thank the players for welcoming me into the fold and giving their best each and every game. I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to continuing the Winning Tradition that this organization has established,” Stich added.
Zach is a graduate of M State Fergus Falls with an Associate of Arts (2006), he received his bachelor’s degree in history from Bemidji State University in 2009. He would go on to obtain his Master’s in education from Southwest Minnesota State University (2014). He lives in Fergus Falls, Minnesota with his wife, Claire, and two children, Jared and Rachel.
